This season, the Star River flows through Arizona and New Mexico - lands where the stars feel close enough to touch - and across the Atlantic to the historic observatories of Europe.

  • The Source: I begin with astronomers in Sweden, Italy, and the UK, alongside amateur astrophotographers from across the US. We explore how the simple act of looking up sets anyone - regardless of education - on a personal journey down the River.
  • The Science: I visit the Very Large Array (VLA), sitting with astronomers and engineers to discuss the physics of the deep sky and the mechanics of one of the most powerful telescopes on Earth.
  • The Spirit: The season culminates at the final Gathering of Nations Powwow, where I seek to listen to the heritage of those who have looked to the stars for generations and how those connections are woven into the present.

Along the way, I'll speak with a host of passionate amateur astronomers, astrophotographers, programmers, musicians, artists, and average people who feel connected to the stars in their own ways. We'll hear their stories, in their own words, about how they came to journey on this River of Stars.

By bringing these stories together, we find a more complete picture of our place in the Universe.
